BIS - 2021 Play March 18,19,20, 23,24,25 For Better, For Worse

The 2021 play is called “ For Better, For Worse”.  It is the sequel to “ The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley” , the March 2020 play which was very popular.

The play  is being directed again by Paul Whelan.

The story takes place in a small central Ireland town in County Westmeath in the early 1990’s.   Local farmer Gabriel Foley is now married to Chrissie and they have taken up housekeeping in Gabriel’s farmhouse where Aggie, Gabriel’s mother also lives.   Lucy, Aggie’s sister is now a widow and she has come to stay for a bit with her sister.  Aggie is not treating Chrissie as well as she should and Chrissie is unhappy.   Gabriel is easily distracted by all the women around him, including a new Femme Fatale Miriam who is determined to take pictures of Gabriel with as few clothes on as possible for her “Manly Exhibition” in Dublin.  Gabriel’s friend, Liam Gavigan, is up to his usual tricks and manages to get himself and Gabriel into the hot water… the antics at the farmhouse continue.

Society objectives have remained consistent, with perhaps changing emphasis, since its founding in 1825. They are:

1.   To preserve and promote Irish history, culture, and heritage and, in particular,  its Gaelic, Celtic traditions.

2.   To carry out acts of charity and benevolence.

3.   To promote friendship and unity among the Irish and their descendants.

The Benevolent Irish Society is one of the oldest organizations in Prince Edward Island. Established in 1825 the Society was incorporated by an Act of the Legislature in 1882 .

Originally established to meet the needs of Irish immigrants and the poor of all denominations, today the Society places increasing emphasis on preserving and promoting Irish history, culture, and heritage, and in particular its Gaelic, Celtic traditions.
